Who We Are
The International Leadership Alumni Conference (ILAC) is a group of like-minded leaders who are mostly graduates of rural and agricultural leadership programs from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, and the United States.
However, ILAC is designed to promote networking and professional development for the alumni of these programs as well as others who are interested in the experience. The group first formed in 1989 when the directors of these programs held their first IAPAL – International Association of Programs for Agricultural Leadership meeting in Point Clear, Alabama. The directors held their meeting and a small group of alumni attended as well. 1990 marked the first official ILAC meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two groups met together from 1989–1992 and then decided to hold separate conferences each year thereafter.
ILAC provides a great venue to meet other alumni and visit the host state or country and learn more about their agriculture and rural issues……we are celebrating more than 28 years of networking and friendships.
“ILAC gives me the opportunity to experience things I would never experience on my own. I could visit Kentucky or any of the other ILAC locations at any time, but it wouldn’t be the same without my ILAC friends and family. These experiences allow me to continue my journey.”
Lisa Ann James, Project CENTRL, Class XIX
“ILAC is a great annual event that connects diverse rural and agricultural leaders from around the globe. Each year I take away some knowledge or connection that helps me to grow my own business and success.”
Tiffany Ground, Project CENTRL
“The best way to predict your future is to create it."
“I truly believe that we're put on this earth to make a difference. We choose whether it's going to be a positive or a negative difference. I've always wanted to make a positive difference. You can't sit still, you're either doing good or you're not doing anything."
Derwood Brett, LeadAR
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” -- Pele
